Day One: Hello World

[News]

Asia Pacific Database (ASIA)
Eurasia Atlantic Database (EURA)
Middle East & Africa Database (MIDA)

Today is the launch of Areastudies.com.

Today, Areastudies.com assumes control of all Reference Corp. (http://www.referencecorp.com) databases, with a program of increased coverage, enhanced descriptoring and regionalization, improved relevance engineering and faster retrieval. There will be new databases and extensive improvements to databases. Changes to existing databases will be gradual and include full reloads and retrospective re-indexing.

All continuing subscriptions will be unaffected and there will be no interruption of services to present subscribers.

One new feature is this blog, where we will explore interesting technical and content questions, and response to your questions, content requests and advice. There will not be many of these articles, but as we encounter questions, we will respond to them.

We start with these few articles:

— Notes: Global Descriptors
Notes: Descriptors That Are Not What They Seem

— Notes: Direct Foreign Investment and Doing Business
Notes: Ethnonyms

— Notes: Missing Information: Photographs and Captions

A few future topics include:

— Notes: Descriptor Half-Lives

— Notes: Documentation Half-Lives: Stability of Electronic Resources

Institutional access to the Areastudies.com databases is available on a subscription basis, with access by IP authentication. Access can also be set up for individual researchers and short term research use. Please contact us at areastudies@att.net for a free trial evaluation of the databases and more information.
